AI Compared: Which Assistant Is the Best?

AI (artificial intelligence) is used in a wide variety of ways in our online activities. Some are obvious, like chatting with ChatGPT or generating an image using DALL-E. However, we’re less aware of others, like the AI algorithms used to curate our social media feeds or make online casinos accessible on smartphones and tablets.

When it comes to using AI as an assistant, there are countless ways it can help us with our workflows and day-to-day living. Some of the most talked about are the features and capabilities of generative AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Meta AI, and Copilot. These can help us in our work and personal lives in a simple, conversational way, essentially becoming our personal assistants. But, with so many different options, we face a big question: which of these AI tools is the best?

To answer the question, let’s learn what makes these different AI options unique and sets them apart from their counterparts, starting with the most widely known, ChatGPT.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a great general workhorse when it comes to assisting with tasks. Simply by asking or prompting the bot, you can get content in various formats that are useful for projects, including blogs, proposals, emails, scripts, or code. It’s also a great way to brainstorm project ideas, get a quick synopsis of a complex idea or a lot of information, debug code, or proofread projects.

You can even work the capabilities of ChatGPT into your personal life by using it to develop a meal plan, create a grocery list, or develop a travel itinerary, and you can use it to help you understand new or complex topics.

It’s an easy-to-use AI tool that you can prompt with a question or search query like you would when doing a Google search. You don’t have to create an account to try it out, though if you want to come back to review your conversations, you’ll need one.

However, it’s not perfect. ChatGPT has a reputation for spewing out misinformation or outdated information, and because of its popularity, it isn’t always available to use or quick to respond to queries. ChatGPT is free, though the paid version works faster and more accurately.

Gemini

Gemini is Google’s AI chatbot, which shares many functions and capabilities with ChatGPT. You can use Gemini to develop written content in various formats and styles, brainstorm, and answer questions. It’s easy and free to use; all you need is a Google account to get started.

The reviews of Gemini so far have been lackluster, but the company has been working to remedy this with regular updates and improvements, so with time, it may find ways to make itself positively stand out in the AI chatbot marketplace.

Meta AI

Meta AI is another easy-to-use chatbot that’s one of the newer options on the AI chatbot scene, and it started to make its way to our Meta platforms in 2023. Because it’s integrated with platforms we regularly use, like Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook, it’s widely available and just a couple of taps away if we want to use it and it offers a lot of different uses that will have you reaching for your phone.

Meta AI can be used as a simple chatbot like ChatGPT, meaning you can approach it with any question or query. Beyond this, Meta AI can even be used to create stickers to use in chats, answer questions within a group chat (like giving ideas about where to meet for dinner), and edit images. Essentially, it can help you plan and create more fun in your personal life.

Copilot

Copilot is marketed as ‘your everyday AI companion,’ and its range of uses certainly makes it useful for a wide range of everyday needs. It’s owned by Microsoft, and because of this, it easily integrates into software used frequently in the workplace to support you in your daily tasks. It can also sync with your calendar and inbox, allowing you to organize and schedule more efficiently, but this integration requires  the paid version (which is $20 a month).

It’s also available as a standalone chatbot on the Copilot website and is free to use. Like ChatGPT, it can create written content and code, summarize information, and respond to your questions and queries. However, Copilot sets itself apart with five different GPTs to better answer your questions or meet your needs. These GPTs include the regular chatbot Copilot, designer (which generates images), vacation planner, cooking assistant, and fitness planner.

Copilot is connected to the internet, allowing you to have more relevant and up-to-date information in response, and it even provides links to learn more about what you’re chatting about. For instance, using its vacation planner will give you a written summary of your query and provide you with links to quickly book trips or accommodations.

Which Tool Stands Out as the Best?

The answer to this question depends on the type of assistance you need and when. If you’re using AI on the go and for entertainment, Meta AI is probably the best option since it’s already in the apps you use. If you plan to use AI to streamline your work tasks, Copilot is likely a better fit since it can be easily integrated into a wide range of work systems, most notably for your inbox and calendar.

And if you’re looking to jump-start brainstorming sessions, the free versions of ChatGPT and Gemini are fun tools for this. They also have unlimited prompts, unlike Copilot, making them a good fit if Copilot is out of your price range for getting work done.

Final Thoughts

Even though these tools are still in their infancy, they’re already incredibly helpful personal assistants who can reduce your time on tasks so you can make the most of your time. Regardless of the AI assistant you opt
