The AI arms race shows no signs of slowing down, with major player Anthropic now aiming to double its latest fundraising target. The company, known for its Claude AI assistant and Claude Code tool, is reportedly increasing its goal from $10 billion to a massive $20 billion in venture capital funding.
The decision to supersize the round is driven by booming investor interest in the generative AI sector. If successfully closed soon as expected, this new injection of capital would skyrocket Anthropic’s valuation to an estimated $350 billion.
The upcoming round is expected to draw participation from heavyweight financial and tech investors. Notable anticipated backers include investment management firm Coatue, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, and Sequoia Capital’a firm that also holds an investment in Anthropic’s primary rival, OpenAI.
This aggressive fundraising follows a significant capital influx just months ago. In September, Anthropic announced a $13 billion raise that valued the company at $183 billion, already making it one of the most valuable private companies in the world.
These massive private funding rounds may be a prelude to a public debut. Late last year, the company began hiring legal counsel to prepare for a potential initial public offering that could take place sometime this year.
