Every year, I look back at last year to reflect on last year’s trend prediction, and I make new technology predictions. Last year, I made predictions about the trends that would shape 2022. One of my predictions was that 2022 would be the Year of Decentralisation, with the emergence of the metaverse and the rise of Decentralised Finance. While the metaverse was highly talked about, it has yet to reach mainstream adoption. On the other hand, the Cambrian Explosion of AI that I forecasted did come to fruition, with the availability of numerous Generative AI tools on the market.
My prediction about the war on talent also turned out to be accurate, as many companies struggled to find the right talent in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Decentralised Finance did not take off as expected, possibly due to the ongoing crypto winter. My final prediction for 2022 was that there would be a shift towards a new approach to security, which has indeed been the case, though there are still many challenges to overcome.
Looking ahead to 2023, I predict that it will be the Year of Digital Disruption, as digital technologies continue to advance and create disruption at all levels of society. It is more important than ever for businesses to stay ahead of the curve by identifying and implementing innovative technologies, as technology continues to be highly disruptive. Those who are able to adapt and embrace this digital disruption will thrive, while those who do not risk being left behind.
I anticipate that the digitization of the economy will continue to grow in 2023, leading to greater integration between machines and humans. While AI is often associated with robotics, its biggest impact has been in software that can be implemented in many different digital contexts. As our lives become increasingly digital over the next decade, AI will continue to grow in importance.
Other technological trends in 2023 include the increasing prevalence of machine learning and AI, the expansion of the Internet of Things, and the advancement of autonomous vehicles. These trends will bring numerous benefits to consumers, such as more connectivity and easier access to products and services. Overall, the direction of these trends is towards greater integration of technology into our daily lives.
